SAYED M. SALEH
OPERATIONS & MARKETING

Mr. Sayed Saleh, during his forty-plus year career as a professional hotelier, has earned an international reputation as an energetic and visionary leader in the hospitality world.

Beginning with early studies in his native Egypt and later management training in London, Mr. Saleh developed a unique sense of gracious hospitality, a keen business sense and a dedication to the highest standards of service.

In the 1970’s, he came to the United States, settling in Boston as the General Manager of the Colonnade Hotel. Under his stewardship the Colonnade became a favorite of both business travelers and international visitors to Boston. The hotel was welcomed as a member of both Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide and The Leading Hotels of the World. In addition, it was the recipient of both the distinguished Mobil Guide 4 Star Award and the American Automobile Association’s 4 Diamond Award.

Working with Governor Michael Dukakis and leaders of the Massachusetts tourism industry, in the mid-1980s, Mr. Saleh played a key role in the creation of the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism. He spearheaded efforts to launch innovative public-private partnership marketing programs that helped Boston and the State of Massachusetts become a popular destination for domestic and foreign travelers. For his hard work and commitment, Mr. Saleh was awarded the 1989 “Spirit of Massachusetts Tourism Leadership Award.”

In 1993, Mr. Saleh and his wife Maggie purchased the Orchards Hotel, a 49-room boutique hotel in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The Orchards is a unique jewel in the northern Berkshires that reflects Mr. Saleh’s distinctive personal vision and sense of elegance. With its luxurious rooms; warm, yet efficient European-style service; gourmet dining and international staff, the Orchard as a member of The Leading Small Hotels of the World has earned the celebrated International Five Star Diamond Award, as well as the AAA Four Diamond hotel rating.

For many years Mr. Saleh served as a board member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, devoting himself to the growth and development of that organization and received the honor of being the “2003 Hotelier of the Year” for Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.

Mr. Saleh has dedicated himself to the tourism community and mentoring young hoteliers through organizations such as the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs and as a board member of the Roger A. Saunders School of Hotel and Restaurant Management at Newbury College. For several decades, Mr. Saleh has served on the boards of the Massachusetts Lodging Association, the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Berkshire Visitors Bureau, as well as several other community and industry boards.
