SAYED M. SALEH

Mr. Sayed Saleh,
during his forty-plus year career as a professional hotelier, has
earned an international reputation as an energetic and visionary
leader in the hospitality world.
Beginning with early studies in his native Egypt and later
management training in London, Mr. Saleh developed a unique sense of
gracious hospitality, a keen business sense and a dedication to the
highest standards of service.
In the 1970’s, he came to the United States, settling in Boston as
the General Manager of the Colonnade Hotel. Under his stewardship
the Colonnade became a favorite of both business travelers and
international visitors to Boston. The hotel was welcomed as a member
of both Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide and The Leading Hotels
of the World. In addition, it was the recipient of both the
distinguished Mobil Guide 4 Star Award and the American Automobile
Association’s 4 Diamond Award.
Working with Governor Michael Dukakis and leaders of the
Massachusetts tourism industry, in the mid-1980s, Mr. Saleh played a
key role in the creation of the Massachusetts Office of Travel and
Tourism. He spearheaded efforts to launch innovative public-private
partnership marketing programs that helped Boston and the State of
Massachusetts become a popular destination for domestic and foreign
travelers. For his hard work and commitment, Mr. Saleh was awarded
the 1989 “Spirit of Massachusetts Tourism Leadership Award.”
In 1993, Mr. Saleh and his wife Maggie purchased the Orchards Hotel,
a 49-room boutique hotel in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The
Orchards is a unique jewel in the northern Berkshires that reflects
Mr. Saleh’s distinctive personal vision and sense of elegance. With
its luxurious rooms; warm, yet efficient European-style service;
gourmet dining and international staff, the Orchard as a member of
The Leading Small Hotels of the World has earned the celebrated
International Five Star Diamond Award, as well as the AAA Four
Diamond hotel rating.
For many years Mr. Saleh served as a board member of Preferred
Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, devoting himself to the growth and
development of that organization and received the honor of being the
“2003 Hotelier of the Year” for Preferred Hotels & Resorts
Worldwide.
Mr. Saleh has dedicated himself to the tourism community and
mentoring young hoteliers through organizations such as the Chaîne
des Rôtisseurs and as a board member of the Roger A. Saunders School
of Hotel and Restaurant Management at Newbury College. For several
decades, Mr. Saleh has served on the boards of the Massachusetts
Lodging Association, the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors
Bureau, the Berkshire Visitors Bureau, as well as several other
community and industry boards.
